                 Barton Goldsmith, Ph.D. was named the recipient of the 2006 Peter Markin Merit Award for Humanitarianism from the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT-CA) California Division. He received the award for his community outreach work including his popular column, Emotional Fitness, which has appeared in over 150 newspapers. The award is given to a Marriage and Family Therapist who exemplifies Peter Markin’s spirit through acts of generosity, kindness or humanitarianism. Goldsmith states, “I am eternally grateful to The Ventura County Star/Scripps-Howard News Service and KCLU/NPR for giving me the opportunity to talk with so many people. I am also deeply honored that AAMFT-CA has chosen to recognize my work.” In true “Dr. G” fashion, he is donating the monetary portion of the award to a local non-profit organization.

 

                 Dr. Goldsmith will be speaking the OC-CAMFT luncheon on September 15, 2006, at The Turnip Rose Restaurant. On October 7, 2006, he will be presenting Emotional Fitness for Life at The Oaks in Ojai, California, at 7:15 p.m. Dr. Goldsmith will be speaking at the Erickson Foundation Brief Therapy Conference on Thursday, December 7, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency in Anaheim, California. He will be presenting a course on Emotional Fitness for Couples: Ten Sessions to a Healthy Relationship. Conference information is available here.
